Even though they were supposed to tie the knot over two decades ago, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck canceled their nuptials with only a few days’ notice.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have finally tied the knot after nearly two decades of trying. A small Las Vegas wedding was held this weekend, with the couple and four other couples queuing up for a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada. Thanks to Ben’s ex-wife Jennifer Garner and her 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, who she had with ex-husband Marc Anthony, they were able to marry in front of their children, Violet (16) and Seraphina (13), as well as Samuel (10).
“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive-through in Las Vegas at twelve-thirty in the tunnel of love drive-through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with,” J. Lo penned in her newsletter.
Ben and Jen met on the set of Gigli in 2001 when she was married to Cris Judd. They divorced in 2002. Ben appeared in her Jenny From the Block music video before proposing in 2002. Bennifer’s September 2003 wedding in Santa Barbara, California, was called off four days prior.
The official explanation given for the “postponement” of the wedding was that details about the event had been leaked to the media. “We have decided to postpone the date due to the increased media interest around our wedding,” they stated in a statement. “We started to worry about the integrity of what was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives. We worried that we, our families, and our friends may lose out on what ought to have been a happy and holy day.
According to a source close to the situation, Jennifer was visibly unhappy and “hysterically crying” when she called the wedding party to cancel. It was her “first true sadness” when the pair announced their heartbreaking breakup barely four months after they started dating.
Strangely, Ben had to call off a second wedding to Jennifer, however, this one was for a project they were both working on. This time, Ben had a good reason, telling The Mirror in 2004: “The wedding scene would be distracting. “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. But the viewer must go over thinking, ‘Oh, here are those people we’ve seen on tabloid TV or whatever.’
‘Oh, irony!’ would have made it more difficult because of the wedding scene.”. “It’s ironic. Jen and I were thrilled when we made the film. When you watch a movie you made, you remember the crew. The recollections are all wonderful.” Ben said it wasn’t designed as revenge against Jennifer because they still chatted on the phone with “no bitterness or animosity.”
The Batman star would go on to marry fellow Hollywood A-lister Jennifer Garner in 2005 and they had three kids together. They announced their separation in June 2015 and their divorce was formalized in October 2018 – with Ben thereafter dating TV producer Lindsay Shookus and actress Ana de Armas. J. Lo married Marc Anthony in June 2004, and they had twins in February 2008. They split in July 2011 and divorced three years later. The Let’s Get Loud singer dated Casper Smart from October 2011 until 2016, then engaged to Alex Rodriguez in March 2019.

Jennifer was spotted house-hunting with Ben, sparking rumors about their relationship status. They announced their engagement in April, with J. Lo gushing over a green-diamond ring in a video.
