Sian Heder wrote and directed CODA, a coming-of-age comedy-drama film set in 2021. Emilia Jones plays the titular child of deaf adults (CODA) and the sole hearing member of a deaf family in this English-language version of the 2014 French-Belgian film La Famille Bélier. She tries to aid her family’s struggling fishing company while pursuing her own goal of becoming a singer. In supporting roles, Eugenio Derbez, Troy Kotsur, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Daniel Durant, and Marlee Matlin appear. The film was shot on-site in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in the United States, as part of an international co-production between the United States and France, with La Famille Bélier producer Philippe Rousselet resuming his role as producer. Cruella is a 2021 American crime thriller inspired by Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians’ character Cruella de Vil. Craig Gillespie directed the picture, which was based on a tale by Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel, and Steve Zissis and had a script by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara. Ryusuke Hamaguchi co-wrote and directed Drive My Car, a 2021 Japanese drama-road film.
