Halsey has shared their story of having many miscarriages in the open. The Without Me singer talked about their experience of losing three pregnancies and how it had strengthened their support for abortion rights in the US. A week after the Supreme Court overturned the historic Roe v. Wade decision, which had recognized the constitutional right to abortion in the United States for nearly 50 years, the singer—whose son Ender turns one this month—discussed their experiences in an opinion piece that was published in Vogue on July 1.

The National Library of Medicine states that the terms “spontaneous abortions,” “missed abortions,” and “incomplete abortions” may be used in billing or insurance claims when referring to miscarriages. The patient may be forced to wait longer, be given drugs to try to hasten the process, or have surgery with or without anesthesia if the unsuccessful pregnancy cannot be terminated naturally. The latter two techniques are frequently applied when successful pregnancies want to end their lives.
