On Tuesday(18 August 2015), passengers on a Jet Airways flight between Doha and Cochin got a close call when the pilot landed the plane with only 250 kilograms of fuel left.
A Boeing 737 airplane should have a fuel reserve of at least 1500 kg after landing.
“We have grounded the flight’s pilots and will conduct an examination of Jet Airways’ fuel uplift policy,” – a senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation who did not recognize the emergency clearly.
There were 141 passengers and eight staff members on board the flight from Doha to Cochin (9W 555).
Due to low visibility, the flight was unable to land in Cochin and had to make three go-arounds, according to the official. After three failed tries, the jet was diverted to Trivandrum, where it landed with only 250 kg of fuel remaining after three failed attempts.
