In Hollywood, Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance are regarded as legends. Both their marriage and their acting careers have lasted a long time thanks to the perseverance of the couple.

Jen and Brad. Rachel and Ryan. Lisa and Lenny. Unfortunately, some of the most well-known Hollywood marriages have not endured the test of time. However, Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance’s union has endured for nearly 25 years and counting, demonstrating that genuine love can last in the demanding business. While also parenting their adolescent twins, the power couple dominates in their illustrious Hollywood professions.

Here's a look at an epic love story involving Emmy and Academy Award winners Courtney and Angela:

Courtney B. Vance and Angela Bassett Met:

In the 1980s, Vance and Bassett met in New Haven, Connecticut, while they were both students at the Yale School of Drama. Vance was seeing someone else at the time, thus their first encounter did not result in love at first sight.

The 9-1-1 actor revealed to Jess Cagle of People in 2018 that her future husband had a “beautiful, beautiful” girlfriend at the time who was also a classmate. Angela was associated with another individual when they first met, according to Courtney, who revealed this in an interview she gave two years prior on The Wendy Williams Show.

However, both had entirely different recollections of their initial encounter. Angela told Oprah Winfrey in 2007 that she “most definitely” remembered Courtney as “tall, black, slender, and seductive.” The same year, Courtney admitted to Oprah that he had no memory of Angela.

First Date:

The two reconnected in Los Angeles nearly 15 years later. This time, romantically speaking, everything was in their favor. “I was single,” gushed Bassett about Vance. He was unmarried. Over those years, I had such a respect for him because of his reliability, his manner with others, his support for me, his ability to bring people together, and his passion. This led to the start of their relationship.

Although Angela may have had vivid memories of Courtney from their first meeting at Yale, their first date was a disaster, as she further explained in her sit-down interview with Oprah. Dare I say, it didn’t stick in my mind. He simply gave off the impression of being a really, really kind guy, which was… boring. There it was. Wasn’t going to think twice about him,” she added. But according to Courtney, their second date, which they spent golfing, was better. We had a terrific time, he said. I declared, “I like her.” Something was taking place.

Wedding and Children:

Twins Bronwyn and Slater, who were born in 2006, are the parents’ first children. Angela and Courtney wed in 1997. Despite her usage of guilt trips, Angela acknowledged on an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden in April 2021 that she is the “good cop” to her now 15-year-old children. Courtney, however, is “very calm” and “constant.” I tell them, “I am your good time, so you don’t want to mess with me,” she continued.

The book Their Friends: A Love Story:

Friends: A Love Story, a book about Vance and Bassett’s marriage, was co-written in 2007. The book discusses a number of their interactions as well as the challenges they faced as they prepared to become parents. They chose surrogacy, according to Bassett, and “never really became disheartened.”

Both of them also discussed the challenges they had after becoming parents. As reported by People in 2006, Angela said that she and Courtney ultimately settled on having Bronwyn and Slater through surrogacy. She stated that she “had faith, so I never really got discouraged.”

The following is another piece of advice from Bassett on how to keep a relationship going strong:

locating a partner who shares your interests. She claimed that finding the “perfect person” to marry was everything for her and Vance.

Be sure that you and your partner are looking in the same direction, Bassett suggested. Despite the fact that you are not exact duplicates of one another, you have similar or almost identical beliefs and charming personalities.
