The 94th Academy Awards 2022, famously known as Oscars 2022, on 8th February 2022 announced the nominations for its upcoming award ceremony on March 2022.
Netflix’s dark Western The Power Of The Dog, directed by Jane Campion, leads the nominations with 12 nods including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actress nomination for Kirsten Dunst, and two Best Supporting Actor nods for Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons.
Dune has 10 nominations while West Side Story and Belfast follow with 7 nominations; King Richard, which stars Will Smith, has six nominations. The oldest nominee for Best Supporting Actress is Judi Dench, 87 till now. She is listed in the nominations for her performance in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast. Ariana DeBose is listed as Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story, for this role Rita Moreno won the Oscar in the 1961 film.

“Power of the Dog” scored 10 nominations and it will compete for the top prize with the science-fiction epic “Dune,”. The drama “Belfast” is about a family living amid conflict in late 1960s Northern Ireland.

Other best-picture nominees are Japanese drama “Drive My Car,” “King Richard,” the story based on the father of tennis stars Serena Williams and Venus.
Last year, the ceremony os Academy Awards took place at a Los Angeles train station with no host. Another highlight of Oscars 2022 is that it will have a host for the first time since 2018, comedian Kevin Hart bow out of hosting the Academy Awards 2022 after homophobic tweets he made several years earlier reemerged. Since then, the Oscars have been host-less.
From India, Suriya’s Jai Bhim and Mohanlal’s Marakkar fail to make the shortlist in Academy Awards 2022 and finally, the Tamil film Koozhangal, directed by P.S. Vinothra, is India’s official entry for the Oscars 2022.
